National road safety week
Move over, slow down! Protect those who protect us by slowing down and giving them the space they need to stay safe.
This week we have highlighted the importance of National Road Safety Week (NRSW), which runs from 16-23 May.
NRSW is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highway group that brings attention to the 1,200 lives lost and 44,000 who are seriously injured on Australian roads each year.
Mayor Peter Beer led the events by encouraging others to drive safely so we can return home to our loved ones and encouraging the community to make the pledge.
Our customer service officers and Visitor Centre staff wore yellow ribbons, you may have seen posters on display at each of our offices with a QR code so our community could pledge to drive so others survive.
Local emergency services including the Monaro Police District, Highway Patrol, Ambulance, State Emergency Service, Monaro Fire Brigade and Monaro Team Rural Fire Service joined forces to get behind this message.
Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we must all be responsible for reducing the road toll on our roads. Let’s all make the pledge to drive so others survive.
